Item Description
This piece definitely has a story. It is artist Promise Sloan's rendering of an abandoned amusement park called Lake Shawnee in Southern WV. The park has been shut down since 1966, and many say its grounds are now haunted. The actual property/site has a significant mysterious history: prior to the amusement park being built, the land was the site of a kidnapping and murder by Native Americans; two accidental deaths occurred of young patrons while it was an amusement park, as well.
Sloan is an abstract/impressionist painter. Her inspiration comes from the places she has been and the people she has crossed paths with in her life. She is a graphic artist, as well. She was awarded the Graphic Design/Advertising award from Concord University. Her technique and distinctive grouping of colors in combination with the the mere size of canvas she works are two qualities that contribute to making her pieces truly unique.
